Tasked with creating an epic chair design for the busy lobby of the SAS Royal Copenhagen Hotel in the late 50s, designer Arne Jacobsen took inspiration from the classic wing chair and made it modern by rendering it in the period's newest materials-molded fiberglass and tubular steel. The result was a fully-functional, sculptural work of art-the Egg Chair was born.
